Academic Research

Published research in chemistry and materials science, with 1000+ citations built on collaboration with outstanding colleagues.

My research career started in chemistry and materials science. In January 2026, my combined citation count crossed 1000. That number means less on its own — what it really reflects is collaborative work with outstanding colleagues at Johnson Matthey and the University of Liverpool, and an employer that valued open scientific contribution.

For an industry scientist, a lot of work disappears into proprietary processes and internal reports. Having research that stays visible and gets cited is something I don’t take for granted.

A later publication on using Emacs in Chemical R&D bridged my research background with my interest in productivity tools — the thread that now runs through much of what I write about.
